TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING
On May 29, 2019, the Government of Saskatchewan announced new training requirements for farmers. By March 1, 2021 anyone who wants to drive a semi truck in agriculture operations will be required to take 121.5 mandatory training, including holders of an “F” endorsement.
- Training taken after March 15, 2019 may count toward completion of the full MELT program later. (up to 40 hours)
- Effective March 1, 2020, mandatory 40-hour training program to obtain an “F” endorsement
- The mandatory 40-hour training program completed after March 1, 2020 will count and the driver would have to complete the balance of training (81.5-hour top up program) by March 1, 2021
- After March 1, 2021, the 121.5 hour program is mandatory for all farmers looking to obtain their 1A licence.
Trans Industrial’s new Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) program consists of the following:
- 47 hours of classroom instruction
- 17.5 hours of in-yard instruction
- 57 hours of in-cab training (39 hours on-road, 18 hours of off-road)
- Total of 121.5 hours
For farmers wishing to take a shorter training program to begin with, and take the remainder of the training at a later date, Trans Industrial offers:
- 24 hour (1 week) “F” Endorsement Truck Driver Training
- 40 hour (2 week) “F” Endorsement Truck Driver Training
We provide truck driver training services throughout all of Saskatchewan. For out-of-town clients taking training in Saskatoon, we can offer discounted hotel rates.
GOVERNMENT FUNDING AVAILABLE
If your farm is a registered business, your employees may be eligible for funding that will cover up to 2/3 of the training cost along with a portion of their wages while in training. PRE-REQUISITES NEEDED BEFORE YOU START YOUR TRAINING PROGRAM
- Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence
- Must obtain and pass an SGI Medical Exam
- Must pass 7 written exams at SGI. You will have to write and pass your Class 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Air Brakes and Road Signs exams. These exams are only conducted at SGI offices.
1A Driver Training Programs for the General Public

2) 2 Week 1A/3A Course – $4700.00 + GST
- Includes 3 hours of classroom instruction
- 10 hours of in-yard instruction
- 23 hours of in-cab training
- Up to 40 hours of observation
3) 3 Week 1A/3A Course – $6200.00 + GST
- Includes 3 hours of classroom instruction
- 15 hours of in-yard instruction
- 42 hours of in-cab training
- Up to 60 hours of observation
4) 4 Week 1A/3A Course – $7400.00 + GST
